About Emevor Kingdom

Emevor is a town in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. As of 2009, it had a population of approximately 8,000 people. The town shares boundaries with Ebor-Iyede, Agharha, Otor Owhe, and Orogun, and is situated about 13 kilometers east of Ughelli township stadium. Emevor is known for its two markets, “Ekiedhe” and “Ekiewo,” which serve as central hubs for trade and social interaction.

The traditional ruler of Emevor holds the title of Odion. The town is historically recognized for its peaceful nature, and its residents speak a distinct Isoko dialect. Emevor is also an oil-producing community within the Niger Delta region.

According to oral tradition, the people of Emevor migrated from Iyede, another Isoko-speaking community. The town was founded by Emewha, who led this migration after the leaders of Iyede persecuted the Aka people. In honor of its founder, Emevor has a primary school named Emewha Primary School. The name “Emevor” is derived from an Isoko expression meaning “the house is full of children,” reflecting the community’s value on family and growth.
